We are excited to announce the release of Pageant 1.6.0, featuring a host of new capabilities and performance enhancements. This update introduces a more powerful and flexible way to create and manage populations, enhanced data visualizations, and a refreshed interface for a smoother, more efficient workflow.
Population management
In Pageant, objects from image segmentation workflows (cells, nuclei, etc.) can be grouped or classified based on one or more features, creating populations.
Now, flexibly explore and define populations in the Population Manager. View populations and their definitions all at once, launch the appropriate interface for editing a given population, create new Boolean combinations of populations, and delete populations as you like.
Navigation between populations is also made easy with the new population toolbar, allowing you to iterate through or jump to specific populations efficiently.
Combine your populations to create new ones
You can now combine populations using Boolean operators (such as AND, OR, NOT) to create secondary (Boolean) populations (e.g. new secondary population = population_X AND NOT population_Y). Manage them in the Population Manager and edit them in the Boolean editor.
In addition, both primary and secondary populations can be used as ‘Parent populations’ for further filtering and creation of new populations.
Saving & re-using populations made easy
Any edits to your populations can be saved directly to the existing population using ‘Save’ or as a new population with the ‘Save As’ function. You can also save a collection of populations as a population set and flexibly re-use this set as a template for new images. This allows you to transfer pre-defined populations between images and projects.
Chart enhancement
Pageant Chart visualizes feature data to guide threshold selection for population definition. A logarithmic scale is now supported for both X and Y axes to facilitate visualization of data with a high dynamic range. In addition to histogram plots, Pageant now supports the selection of a second feature to create scatter plots for visualization. This is accompanied with improved behavior of the plot autoscaling function.
Other highlights:
- Key buttons are now text-based, rather than icons, making their functions easier to understand.
- Thumbnail object outlines can display multiple geometries (e.g. both nucleus and cytoplasm of a cell can be outlined). This is specified in the OMERO.table as a GEOMETRYCOLLECTION following the WKT specification.
- New configuration options enable custom colors for object thumbnails.
- Improved loading speed of thumbnails for a smoother browsing experience.
Bugfixes and Maintenance:
- Updated OMERO.web and Django dependencies
We continue to evolve Pageant based on your needs, and we’d love to hear from you! Share your experiences and suggestions with us at support@glencoesoftware.com. Thank you for partnering with us to push the boundaries of image review and analysis!
