The three architectural commitments
The OMERO Plus architectural choices required to serve many simultaneous human users (researchers, pathologists,
image analysts, data scientists, and IT administrators) are precisely the choices required to serve an AI agent.
Permissions
Data security starts with knowing who has access to what. In OMERO Plus, every image and result has an owner and an explicit visibility scope, so administrators can see and control exactly who can view, modify, or share anything in the system: a researcher, a collaborator, or an AI agent included.
Database
The relationships between images, experiments, analysis results, and additional metadata are explicit: a row in a relational database with identity, provenance, and queryable structure.
API
The API is the same contract every interface uses, whether that's a web browser, a desktop app, an HPC script, a notebook, or an AI agent. Nothing a person can do in the interface is off-limits to code.
